The Goblin Wood, by Hilari Bell

This book is The Goblin Wood, by Hilari Bell. It is about a young girl named Makenna, who, after witnessing her mother’s cruel murder by her neighbors (whom she spent her life helping), goes temporarily crazy, ransacking their village and running off into a dense woods, known as the goblin wood. There she accidentally she disturbs a horde of goblins who follow her, ceaselessly  annoying her, until she traps one . By letting him go, she keeps the goblins in her debt. From then on she and the goblins launch small scale attacks upon the humans, until it becomes a full out war.  When a young knight named  Tobin tries to capture Makenna, she captures him and from then on their fates become inexplicably intertwined.

I think all in all this was an excellent book ( I give it 5 stars) but very intense; I would not recommend it for anyone under 9.

  1. It does sound intense. I’m not sure this almost-40-year-old can read this without nightmares myself!
